The Root

These days, godly men are in short supply. Many of us attend church and do our best, but at the end of the day, most fall short of realizing their potential. Most men know this firsthand, and I’m no exception. We’re not under attack, but rather are slowly being crushed by a society that thinks it’s been awakened and can see a better way forward than what has worked for millenia, way that works for the “woke” but goes against the core of the things so many of us believe.

This new way forward doesnt recognize the differences that make us great. Instead it tells up youre great just as you are, and up to a point thats fine. The problem inherant in that is that if your good enough as you are why try to be better? Why take the time learn anything new, why put in the time and sweat to become the best when everyone is rewarded and treated the same?

This was compunded by parents of the past telling their children to focus on college, learn whats in the books, pass the tests, and get the piece of paper that will get them the job to let them pay someone else to do the things those parents knew how to do but didnt want to. With that a large chunk of that generation lost the desire and ability to do anything in the “trades” or considered blue collar.

The Problem

What does a man do when he feels like he’s already as good as he needs to be, doesn’t know how to do anything and don’t need to? He sins.

Free time isnt a good thing, it leaves us to our own devices and those are almost certain to be self serving. We live in an age where waisting time is what we do. 40 hours a week at work, thats nothing. That leaves 8 hours free a day plus weekends for us to fill. If we arent happy we can find something that will make us happy even if its just for that moment. The world is full of scrolling and advertisments, games, distractions, easy payment plans and instant gratification. All these things are good in the moment but in the end add no value to you as a person or your life. The brutal truth is that in almost all cases they will make your and your life worse.

When your life gets worse so do the lives of all those around you. When it gets better theirs will too. So lets figure out what YOU can do to make your life better.

A Solution

Without getting too religous or philosophical I’d like to explain my thinking on this. It’s going to be based on God and his words but I promise not to beat you with it. I try to live my life in a way that shows people the power and grace that God gives those who do his work his way. Besides, its not my job to save you, only Jesus can do that. I just want to get you to a place where he can.

That being said, I believe there is a thing in all of us, not a purpose or a reason for being but more like a passion. I think it was there from the moment we came to be and its there to help make us, well, us.

Maybe it’s the thing you do best, the thing that makes others smile, the thing you can just do. I do have it on good authority that it is the thing that when you do it, it makes you feel like you.

It seems to me if I were the supreme being and creator of all, that if there was something I wanted someone to do here on earth I’d put a passion in them in them that they would want to do it, almost need to do it and makes them feel spectacular when they do.
